Why this exact limit matters
Marketplace listings are a volume game: dozens of product photos, each capped by platform rules, each needing to survive a zoom. A 200 KB ceiling with a square frame is the workhorse combination — square because marketplaces display in square tiles, 200 KB because it buys genuine sharpness at that scale without bloating your listing load time.
A fixed target turns bulk image preparation into a repeatable step: same ceiling, every file, no per-image editing. 200 KB is a moderate limit, common for application portals, and this page is preset to exactly that ceiling.
How to compress to 200 KB
- Drop your image into the box above — it stays on your device.
- Confirm the target: under 200 KB as JPEG.
- The MozJPEG encoder searches its quality range so the JPEG output lands just under your limit. Dimensions are left at their original size unless the target demands otherwise.
- Preview the result, compare it with the original if you want, and download — the filename carries its actual size.
Tip: For product photos, fill in the marketplace's recommended pixel dimensions along with the size limit — meeting both at once is what the dual-constraint input is for.
Measured: a marketplace-ready square at 200 KB
Our 914 KB portrait test file with a 1000×1000 square cap and a 200 KB ceiling — the shape and budget of a typical product tile:
Source file
914 KB
1500×1800 JPEG
Output
195.7 KB
4.7× smaller
Frame
833×1000

Quality setting
q81
zoom survives
Quality 81 is the number to care about: it is high enough that the marketplace zoom view still looks sharp, which is where cheap-looking listings lose buyers. The same 200 KB at full frame would hold only quality 34 — the square cap is what protects the zoom.
Frequently asked questions
Different marketplaces, different limits — one file for all?
Produce your master at the strictest common combination (a 200 KB square covers most), and re-run per platform when a rule differs. The locked target makes each variant a one-click operation rather than a slider session.
Does heavy compression affect my listing’s image score?
Platforms measure sharpness and cleanliness, not KB. Under-compressed files (multi-megabyte originals squeezed by the platform itself) often look worse than a well-made 200 KB file — you want to control the encode, not delegate it.
Why square for products that are tall or wide?
Marketplace tiles are square; the platform letterboxes non-square images with white or blurred bars. Capping to the square yourself — with the product filling the frame — controls how the listing looks instead of leaving it to the platform’s cropper.
Can I keep a transparent background for my product image?
JPEG has no transparency — for cut-out products use the WebP or PNG output, which preserves the alpha channel. For plain-white studio shots, JPEG reaches the smallest sizes.
Why JPEG and not another format for my upload?
JPEG is the most universally accepted image format on upload forms and gives the smallest files for photographs. If your destination accepts only "images", JPEG is the safe choice.
What happens to my image when I close the tab?
It is discarded from memory. Nothing was transmitted and nothing was stored, so there is nothing to delete.
